What is a nameserver and DNS?

Modified on Wed, 26 Nov at 3:14 PM

Nameserver is a server that handles queries regarding the location of a domain name’s various services, such as website, emails, and so on.

It is also a part of the Domain Name System (DNS), which maintains a directory of domain names and translates them to IP addresses. This means that when a user visits a domain, a DNS lookup first checks its name servers and reviews the DNS records for that domain accordingly.
